Works with XBOX! |
I bought this router along with a Linksys ethernet bridge (WET54G) to connect my XBOX to my Cable broadband, using the Wireless G thingy (READ: less lag). It all works super fast and sweet, with no drop outs, from the other side of the house (office to lounge), with no wires. Awesome. It worked for the PC straight away, both plugged into the router direct or with the Bridge. Although you should secure it a wee bit by a) changing the SSID b) setting 64 bit encryption (its enough, and 128 slows it down) and finally c) setting MAC address filtering. All easy peasy - I was a novice two days ago. Then for the XBOX, this router has a special setup screen reserved for online gaming. Here you can type in the IP address of your XBOX, PS2, Game server etc. and specify what ports should be made available to the internet. This allows full connectivity for JUST that IP address (i.e. your XBOX), so the rest of your network is safe from hackers - which a lot of routers either dont have or dont allow you to configure. In ADDITION (note) there is a DMZ option, if you need to completely remove the built in firewall protection. I dont use it. In summary, all the options you need, to run whatever you need. Faultlessly! Now, I must get back to some online gaming... :-)

Linksys WRT54G |
I bought this router from Amazon a couple of months ago to broadband connect my Desktop PC (wireless USB), Notebook PC (wireless PCMCIA) and Sony PS2 (cat-5 cable). As there is no built-in modem function, I also bought a D-Link 300G+ ADSL modem to connect out to BT OpenWorld.I had a few initial teething problems connecting out via the modem, but everything has worked like a dream since. The connections into the router (wired & wireless) work faultlessly and were easy to setup, my only issues were fixed by experimenting with the modem settings (PPPoE and VCMux etc) and by downloading the latest firmware. I have called Linksys UK support twice after hours & have been transferred to excellent people in the US. I would recommend Linksys to anyone, and will not be buying any other brands going forward.

excellent - eventually |
I ordered the Wireless Router BEFW11S4 at £59.99 along with two USB Wireless Adapters at the end of July so as to share my NTL Broadband connection with my son’s PC, which is upstairs in a bedroom on the opposite side of the house. The price was the best I could find and delivery was next day. However, I was connecting my Modem to my PC using USB and did not have an Ethernet Card installed. This gave real problems as the set up really expected to use an Ethernet connection between the Router and the PC. All I read and the pictures on the box seemed to suggest I could do it via the USB Adapters without installing a card and Linksys advisers seemed to suggest this was the case. After several attempts at installation and calls to Linksys Customer Service I was told to return the router to Amazon as it had a fault. This I did on 8 August and received a replacement on 26 August. This time I decided it was worth installing an Ethernet Card so I bought a Linksys Card for about £15 and set up with the router was no problem at all. Connection to my son’s PC was equally quick and simple and to date we have had no problems at all. Yesterday my son in law set up his PC in another bedroom using another USB adapter and all three of us were online sharing the same connection simultaneously. No loss of power was seen on the USB adapters and apart from talking to each other on Instant Messenger (how sad) we would not have known anyone was sharing the connection. The problems were partly my own lack of know how but once set up via the Ethernet Card installation was simple and the benefits in usage and avoidance of yet more cables excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this product.
